Curatorial analysis

A pulsation of amber light emerges from the center of the canvas to rupture the surrounding plant density. In this piece, Emilia Cersósimo dispenses with trunks, branches, and descriptive horizons; the forest is not reproduced as a panoramic view, but rather condenses into a physical event where the pictorial matter assumes the tactile properties of the natural world.

The visual space is organized through a centrifugal tension. The core, resolved in glowing ochres and earthy yellows with an almost liquid texture, seems to push a magma of dark greens, mossy shadows, and deep blacks toward the edges. The technique reveals a play of transfers and pressures reminiscent of decalcomania: the oil paint has not been deposited with a conventional brush, but flattened, suctioned, and slid across the support, generating minute vertical striations that emulate the capillarity of leaves, the ribbing of bark, or the flow of damp sap.

Toward the right quadrant, an ascending curve in dark tones with a sharp edge acts as a spine, interrupting the gentle undulations that predominate on the left flank. This crisp cut energizes the canvas and lends it a dramatic cadence: the foliage is neither peaceful nor static, but an active tangle folding and expanding under cavernous illumination.

The scale of 90 by 120 centimeters envelops the gaze, heightening this immersive condition. Rather than offering a window onto an external landscape, the surface invites an inspection that is both microscopic and geological. The forest presented here is matter in gestation, a territory where light does not descend from the sky, but radiates from the very heart of botanical density.
