Curatorial analysis
Two bone-like or mineral cores suspended in a primordial gloom. In this diptych, Emilia Cersósimo places the gaze before a fossilized anatomy that defies any known zoological or geological taxonomy. Against dense backgrounds of earthy tones and bitumen, two structures that alternate fractured planes, exoskeleton curvatures, and faceted edges float with a paradoxical gravity: they are simultaneously petrified remains and organisms in full germination.
The correspondence between both parts operates not as a sequential narrative, but as a variation of mass and glare. In the left panel, the fragment seems to disperse in a centrifugal breakdown, with ridges multiplying into a fan under raking light. In the right panel, by contrast, matter coalesces into a more compact shell, crowned by horn-like appendages that challenge the surrounding void. The atmosphere of this second canvas expands toward a horizon of warm oxides and ochres, granting the ensemble an almost scenographic density, evocative of a geological landscape or an abyssal seabed where light springs from within the bodies rather than from an exterior source.
The handling of oil paint operates through subtle transitions of glazes and swept strokes that dissolve the edges of the figures into the enveloping blackness, contrasting with the razor sharpness of highlights in bone, pearl, and pale mauve glints. This contained chromatic vibration prevents the dark expanse from turning hermetic; it turns it into an elastic realm where the echo of one form begets the other.
By dividing the surface into two autonomous yet mutually magnetized fields, the artist proposes a dialectic of permanence and disintegration. The viewer is situated in the invisible interval separating both canvases, precisely where matter falls silent and the fragments sustain their tense dialogue in the gloom.
