Curatorial analysis

A wall of golden reverberation dominates the visual field of this large-format painting, where the medium appears tempered by an intense, enveloping heat source. Emilia Cersósimo constructs a monumental atmosphere through gradations that rise from dense, nearly opaque earth tones along the base to luminous yellows that dissolve the upper margins of the canvas.

The structure is sustained by a rhythm of imprecise vertical striations, akin to scorched trunks or columns of rising vapor seen against the light. In the right third, a faintly suggested geometry with angular edges and diaphanous planes briefly suspends the vibration of the whole, acting as a prism where light gains volumetric solidity before reabsorbing into the surrounding amber haze.

Across the surface, the fluidity of swept oil paint coexists with fine ridges of tactile texture. These tiny crests catch ambient light in the room, producing an effect where paint ceases to be merely an optical image and becomes rough skin, bark, or dry sediment. The dark mass anchored across the bottom register provides an indispensable telluric weight, a deep shadow without which the upper radiance would lose its thermal intensity.

The piece proposes a physical experience of summer, evoking midday swelter and the suspended haze that dissolves the contours of a natural landscape. Rather than recording a specific view, the canvas translates the sensory memory of dryness and glare, inviting the viewer into a chromatic experience where illumination itself becomes a living, tangible substance.
