Curatorial analysis

A core of yellow light pierces the upper center, unleashing a chromatic vortex where heat is not merely a thermal concept, but a dense and enveloping mass. The surface of "Verano I" vibrates through the accumulation of translucent layers and glazes inherent to acrylic epoxy, a medium that grants the resin an almost geological depth. Around that central clarity, vermilions, ochres, and carmines burst into a stippled texture evocative of botanical exuberance dismantled by blinding sunlight, a vantage point where vision is momentarily overwhelmed.

The square format establishes a centripetal tension that balances the pigment's turbulence. While the material dispersal seems organic and boundless, the composition rests upon a deliberate contrast: bursts of turquoise green and deep violets disrupt the fiery tones, cooling the flanks as though foliage were resisting calcination. Toward the base, a horizontal fissure exposes gleams of icy blue and pure white, a rift functioning as a submerged horizon or a vein of hidden water. This lower chromatic break anchors the expansive violence of the upper section, offering a telluric respite from the suffocating atmosphere.

Subtle drippings and granular microtextures turn the picture plane into a tactile territory where light appears to emanate from within the support, trapped beneath glazed strata. Mejía does not delineate a landscape in geographic terms nor merely chronicle a season by climatic measures; the painting summons the physical sensation of dog days, that threshold where the environment dissolves beneath incandescence and nature itself becomes pure energy suspended in the air.
