Curatorial analysis

A fiery mass of yellows and ochres commands the center of the canvas, radiating as though the light originated from within rather than falling upon it, trapped beneath successive layers of petrified sap. Across this monumental format of one and a half meters per side, Sidhartta Mejía does not document a forest at dusk in a descriptive manner, but rather reconstructs its luminous temperature through a vehement accumulation of matter. The surface, built with epoxy acrylic, takes on a geological quality where resins, sediments, and pigments coexist in a dense tactile suspension.

The pictorial space is structured around a circular tension, a vortex where brushstrokes and material applications swirl and settle. In the lower register, a dark concavity tinted with moss greens, burnt earths, and fleeting turquoise flickers cradles the composition, functioning as a forest floor or a shadowed hollow. From there, the eye ascends toward the incandescent epicenter, violently hemmed in at the flanks by thick vermilions, oxidized carmines, and nearly carbonaceous shadows that stifle any escape from the frame and force the gaze back toward the glow.

This friction between the earthy opacity of the borders and the vitreous transparency of the core lends the painting an almost respiratory pulse. There are areas where the medium seems splashed, dragged with a spatula, or crackled like sun-baked bark, while elsewhere the resin encapsulates the pigments as if in amber. Rather than recreating a recognizable landscape, the painting captures the precise moment in which the foliage engulfs the final sunbeam before night settles in: an organic combustion where plant matter dissolves into pure optical energy.
