Curatorial analysis

The canvas erupts in a combustion where light does not simply illuminate the scene, but seems to emanate from the very density of the pigment. Across a markedly horizontal format, two twisted trees anchor an atmosphere scorched by the setting sun, dominated by fiery vermilions, copper earths, and shards of antique gold. The trunks and branches, sculpted with an almost tactile, sculptural relief, do not merely describe the silhouette of the Guanacaste dry forest; they act as exposed veins channeling a vegetative energy forged through weathering and drought.

The structure is articulated through diagonal tensions that challenge the horizontal stillness of the support. Toward the base and the lower right third, a narrow band of ultramarine and turquoise cuts through the thermal vortex like a strip of water or a distant maritime horizon. This thermal contrast, brief yet decisive, arrests the expansion of the visual fire and anchors the perspective, evoking the proximity of the Pacific Ocean against the coastal aridity. The canopies are not closed masses, but turbulences of matter applied with palette knife and granulated impasto, where foliage deliberately dissolves into the shimmer of heated air.

Rather than recording a geographical postcard, the surface proposes a physical experience of the territory: the suffocating dry-season heat, the wind bending the timber, and the sensory memory of a twilight that refuses to fade. Matter here takes on a tactile quality that transcends pictorial boundaries, turning the landscape into a testament to resilience and telluric persistence. The horizon does not serve as a contemplative refuge, but as a threshold where Central American nature burns with a harsh, intact, and monumental dignity.
