Curatorial analysis

A horizontal pulse dominates this square format from edge to edge, where the paint behaves simultaneously as fluid and sediment. In the upper register, a band of luminous ochre and washed green hints at the distant presence of an illuminated atmosphere or a coastline suspended in clarity. Below, the painting plunges into an entirely liquid and geological geography: strata of cerulean, cobalt, turquoise, and abyssal blues that succeed one another in a rhythmic tension between lightness and gravity.

The surface reveals a rigorous process-based execution where aqueous glazes coexist with firm scrapings and almost tactile build-ups. Toward the center, small effervescences of white and turquoise emulate the vibration of sea foam or the sparkle of light fracturing over water, while across the lower half the material grows denser and more opaque. Tiny bursts of toasted orange and oxides emerge there to break the chromatic coldness; they are warm sediments peeking through like embers buried beneath the pressure of the nocturnal blue anchoring the base.

The 110 by 110 centimeter scale affords the viewer an immersive experience. There is no literal description of the sea or coastal horizon here, but rather an evocation of their primordial forces. The canvas proposes a transit between the ethereal and the profound, an intermediate state where earth, sky, and oceanic currents seem to dissolve into a single plastic surge. The suggestive and restrained title places the observer in that moment prior to formal definition, where matter still holds the full energy of an event about to reveal itself.
