Curatorial analysis

A chromatic explosion immediately subverts the convention of the Caribbean landscape. Rather than submitting to photographic mimesis of the coast, the surface erupts in a frontal confrontation of pure hues: the sand does not answer to the logic of mineral ochre, instead breaking into a vivid fuchsia plane set against a warm yellow mass, mediated by a turquoise water channel. This frontal partitioning of the beach operates as a visual manifesto where color ceases to merely describe, becoming temperature and sensory vibration.

The horizontal structure of the canvas, arranged in successive strata of shoreline, ocean, and mountain, finds its breaking point in the left third. There, a compact cluster of palm trees defies the calm of the horizon. The foliage does not imitate botany timidly; it rises through thick, energetic brushstrokes laden with matter, where solar yellows, oranges, and a dense violet-red build almost architectural canopies. The mark is swift and gestural here, sculpted with visible impasto that projects the fronds outward from the canvas, like organic flares silhouetted against the shadowy green of the tropical forest.

Behind this dense vegetation, resolved in deep greens and shadows verging on dark violet, the sky introduces an entirely distinct dynamic. The cerulean blue is invaded by a network of white splatters and drips applied with a freedom reminiscent of the crash of sea spray or the blinding glare of Caribbean midday. There is no softness in this atmosphere, but rather a tactile, percussive luminosity. The sea, compressed into a cobalt blue strip with linear white crests, sustains this tension between the water's serenity and the vibrant pulse of the coast. The gaze remains suspended in this reinvented Puerto Viejo, where actual geography yields its weight to a pure celebration of pigment, frontal light, and the exuberant memory of the tropics.
