Curatorial analysis

An igneous explosion suspends its course amid an abyssal atmosphere. The deep blue, modulated into vertical and fluid glazes toward the top and bottom edges, acts simultaneously as sky, seabed, or aquatic expanse. Against this chromatic stillness, the central band breaks in with tactile violence: fiery reds, solar yellows, vermilions, and turquoises wage a battle of accumulated raw matter, stretching the canvas in a direct tension between enveloping calm and radiant combustion.

The structure does not rest on a passive horizon line, but rather on a network of fractured vectors piercing the horizontal plane. Dense, sharp vertical strokes rise and descend like masts, mangrove roots, coastal silhouettes, or the flickering glares of a wind-broken tide. These dark, ochre pulses serve as the painting's vertebrae, preventing the expansive energy of the color from scattering aimlessly and imbuing the scene with a rhythmic pulse akin to choppy surf.

Across the canvas, the acrylic takes on a sculptural thickness through the decisive handling of the palette knife. In certain passages, the pigment builds into rough crusts and sharp ridges that trap physical gallery light, while along the peripheries it is dragged into translucent films, revealing the breath of underlying layers. This interplay between physical density and optical dissolution mimics the very nature of reflective water, where the gaze cannot settle on a motionless plane.

Allá en las Playas del Coco dispenses with picturesque narrative to seize the physical memory of the Guanacaste coastline at the exact moment twilight flares and subsides. The shore ceases to be a distant panorama and transforms into a sensory event: the heat trapped in the sand, the phosphorescence of the foam, and the impending gloom of the gulf, all turned into pure pictorial matter.
