Curatorial analysis

An overflowing chromatic pulsation organizes the Orosí Valley across this markedly horizontal format, where the geographic terrain transmutes into pure luminous energy. Shifting away from the documentary mimesis of traditional Costa Rican landscape painting, the visual field is articulated here through an almost musical vibration of color fields, rhythmic stripes, and tactile impastos.

The structure rests upon three highly dynamic parallel bands. In the upper zone, a sky filled with striated brushstrokes of pink, violet, and sky blue establishes an electric atmosphere, whose agitation immediately engages with the shadowy weight of the central mountain ridge. That mountainous mass, constructed with dark greens and dense bluish shadows, functions as a heavy, silent counterweight that anchors the composition against the surrounding euphoria.

Beneath this green wall, the valley floor unfolds into a kaleidoscopic mosaic. The agricultural patches do not merely depict terraces or crops; they appear as vertical geometric grids of magenta, ochre, and violet that create visual tension against planes of lime green and vibrant yellows. At the center of this parceling, the river meander carves through the canvas with a luminous, sinuous flow, outlined by light, pink, and ochre filaments that seem to absorb all the radiance of the scene.

The pictorial material makes no attempt to conceal itself; the acrylic accumulates generously, laying bare the direct trace of each gesture. The result is a landscape that transcends geographic reference to propose a sensory experience of the basin, in which the fertility of the soil and the tropical climate are translated into an exuberant celebration of matter and light.
