Curatorial analysis

A dense and continuous cerulean and cobalt blue bears the weight of a forest that seems to catch fire in its own reflections. Across this two-meter-wide canvas, Ileana Piszk cancels the traditional notion of a horizon: the dividing line between sky, shore, and body of water dissolves, allowing the vegetation to act as a pulsating curtain suspended over the liquid surface.

The trunks rise with striking chromatic force, traversed by vermilions, rusts, and deep brown shadows that break the serenity of the blue backdrop. Their sinuous forms do not merely reach toward the light; they project downward in vertical drags, as if the wood were slowly liquefying upon touching the water. This inverted duplication sets an almost musical rhythm across the entire canvas, where each trunk finds a liquid resonance that prolongs its presence.

In the upper register, the canopies burst into a profuse texture of lime greens, luminous yellows, and white impasto applied with a rugged, tactile density. There is a clear interplay of weights: while the foliage is constructed through near-sculptural relief that catches the gallery's light, the water in the lower half glides in vertical sweeps and veils evoking quiet depth and gentle current.

The lake landscape ceases to be a topographic record and becomes a purely sensory event. Pictorial matter takes center stage. The tension between the visceral heat of the bark and the enveloping coolness of the water generates an atmosphere where nature is not observed from afar, but envelops the viewer through tactile vibration and luminous overflow. The entire surface hums, suspended in the precise moment where earth and water mirror one another as one.
