Curatorial analysis

A dense, gravitational darkness governs the space, yet it is far from an inert surface; this is a living, mineral, pulsating night. In this rigorously square, large-scale format, the black mass acts as an enveloping force that pushes a series of tactile blooms into the foreground. Instead of describing branches or foliage mimetically, the surface draws upon the raw impulse of oil paint: pressures, striations, and textural transfers that recall leaf veins, the rough underside of shelf fungi, or the ridges water fossilizes into rock.

The space is organized around a profound central void, a cavity in absolute shadow enclosed by geological strata and smoldering vegetable matter. Toward the upper third, horizontals of ashen light suggest drifting veils of mist or an atmosphere suspended between two dense masses of canopy. From the lateral edges and the bottom, glows of golden ochre and olive green emerge, backlighting the crests of the material. This illumination does not stem from an identifiable external source; rather, it seems to seep from the very entrails of the canvas, producing a striking sense of cavernous depth.

This tension between the formless and the structured grants the painting its primordial resonance. The rhythm ascends from rippled, tactile groundings toward more diluted, ethereal sweeps, where pigment sheds its weight to become haze. Cersósimo renounces the anecdote of traditional landscape to submerge the viewer in a telluric experience. The nocturnal forest is not a motif to be contemplated from afar, but a visceral realm that presses close, revealing how the most impenetrable shadow can be charged with vibration and latent biological life.
