Curatorial analysis

Here, pictorial matter operates as a geological force rather than a landscape depiction. The oil does not describe an eruption from the outside; it takes on the abrasive, fluid, and dense behavior of magma undergoing transformation. Upon the canvas, the pigment seems subjected to thermal pressures, chemical tensions, and fluid runoffs that recreate the violent dynamism of the earth’s crust at the exact moment of its fracture.

The lower area concentrates the most decisive visual weights. A mass of bituminous blacks, deep earths, and charcoal shadows anchors the composition with an almost tactile gravity, capped at the base by an ashen cone of ascending strokes. From that dark root, the paint boils over toward the center into effervescent crests, where ochres and chalky whites intermingle with fiery vermilions. These rough textures, resembling freshly cooled volcanic slag, disrupt the fluidity of the medium and produce a visual relief of sheer mineral intensity.

Toward the upper third, telluric turbulence yields to a suspended luminosity. Reddish and ochre glazes dissolve into a horizon veiled by vapors, gases, and airborne ash, where white intervenes in frothy ridges crowning the eruptive column. The light does not originate from an external source, but from the latent glow emanating from the chromatic layers themselves, as though the canvas harbored an internal temperature.

This piece from the series moves past any merely documentary intention to settle into an elemental experience of the land. The mountain ceases to be a recognizable silhouette in the distance and becomes a living, unstable body in perpetual genesis, where painting and nature share the very same impulse of cataclysm and creation.
