Curatorial analysis

A golden and coppery flare opens the center of the canvas as if the thicket were igniting from within. Although the title immediately evokes the density of the southern Costa Rican rainforest, Sidhartta Mejía does not delineate recognizable botany; he translates the territory into pure luminous energy and atmospheric tension. The painting vibrates between the glare of an overhead clearing and the humid containment of an impenetrable vegetation.

That central band, where the purest yellows reach their highest incandescence, acts as a vertical axis of decompression against the outer edges, which recede into darkness through scorched earth, burgundy, and nearly blind blacks. The eye is drawn into that burning core, yet held mid-journey by a weave of dark filaments and vertical drips that function like lianas or distant trunks, casting a graphic network that restrains unmediated depth.

The epoxy resin combined with acrylic lends the surface a vitrified quality, rich in glazes and transparencies. The matter appears suspended in successive layers, alternating matte spatters, dispersed impastos, and minuscule touches of sea green and magenta that puncture the dominant warmth with almost fluorescent flashes. There is no descriptive brushstroke; instead, one finds accumulation, filtration, and condensation of plastic matter.

The painting ultimately functions as a living organism breathing between the voracity of the foliage and a thermal outburst. Rather than observing a natural vista from afar, the viewer is immersed in an unmeasurable vegetal mass, where light does not merely illuminate objects but dissolves them within its own internal fire.
