Curatorial analysis

A monumental verticality immediately establishes a physically immersive experience: the viewer is placed at the base of an abyss or a dense thicket, where two solid flanks of absolute black frame an upward burst of light. This contrast is not gently modulated; it operates as an optical fracture where the zenithal white seems to press downward while the earthly matter strains to break through toward the top.

Beneath this upper mist, the core of the painting vibrates through a mosaic of fractured planes. Slashes of vermilion red, streaks of fiery orange, and discreet flashes of steel blue emerge among ash and ochre tones, like bark or embers coming to life as they catch the glow. All this chromatic body, executed with pronounced material density, coexists with a violent network of black drips and splatters: filiform lines that climb and branch out like charred boughs, lianas, or exposed roots tearing through the surface.

The visual rhythm is driven by the tension between the atmospheric stillness of the white and the nervous vibration of the dark lines. The lateral edges, rendered as impenetrable masses of shadow, compress the chromatic energy into the center, compelling the gaze to traverse the canvas in an unavoidable vertical path.

The imposing scale amplifies an atmosphere that is simultaneously telluric and mystical. Rather than describing a literal forest landscape, the canvas translates the sensation of emerging from darkness toward a blinding illumination, turning the woods into an elemental collision of shadow, vegetal fire, and air.
