Curatorial analysis

A wall weathered by time seems to yield part of its surface so that two bodies may barely recognize one another. At the center of the canvas, physical contact is not defined by muscle or anatomical volume, but by a condensed passage of light where a slate-gray arm encircles a torso washed in timid pink. Everything else about them already belongs to a mineral realm: featureless heads leaning together, shoulders soaking up the background's humidity, and legs that dissolve into the lower sediment until they disappear.

This oscillation between living presence and a degraded wall establishes the tension across the canvas. The surface operates like a stratigraphy of glazes, drying rings, and puddles of earthy pigment that evoke an ancient, almost geological seepage. Set against the stratified horizontality of the ground, the figure establishes a fragile yet decisive vertical axis, held only by a sparse black outline that cradles the silhouette before the paint reclaims it entirely.

Across the lower register, a sequence of dark, incisive marks cuts through the hazy stillness of the wash. They read as remnants of an illegible script, tangled brushwood, or desiccated furrows anchoring the lovers to a harsh and jagged terrain. The friction between the sharpness of these bottom marks and the tender restraint of the torso's pale tints concentrates the emotional weight of the scene, where the warmth of human touch endures just as it seems about to fade.

The embrace remains suspended in an uncertain temporality, caught between a dissolving farewell and a fragile monument resisting oblivion. Moving away from sentimental narrative, the painting transforms intimacy into a persistent stain, an intimate fossil etched into the cracked skin of the world.
