El AbrazoSold

In this piece, the stony hardness of white marble dissolves into a cadence of enveloping forms that challenge the rigidity of the original block. There are no aggressive edges or abrupt breaks; the material expands in turgid, fleshy curves that evoke both human anatomy and the biological architecture of a seed or cocoon. The figures do not merely coexist in three-dimensional space, but emerge from one another, turning the volume into an indivisible embrace.

The rhythm is structured along a diagonal axis that ascends from the base to the crown of the upper figure. Below, a face immersed in sleep rests horizontally upon a limb that seems to melt into the resting plane; above, a skyward-tilted head reveals a helicoidal headdress or hairstyle, whose spiral turns introduce a sharp graphic tension amid so much roundness. This counterpoint between the surrender of rest and the suspended tension of wakefulness generates a silent narrative, where individual bodily identities are voluntarily subordinated to the purity of the sculptural whole.

Light slides across the polished surface without meeting resistance, generating exceptionally subtle shadow transitions that accentuate the tactile sensation of skin. The contrast with the black, glossy pedestal is not merely decorative: it operates as a dark horizon that mirrors the form and emphasizes the almost airy weightlessness with which the marble appears to hover above its support.

Palenzuela proposes a sanctuary where physical touch becomes metaphysical shelter. Rather than merely documenting two intertwined bodies, the sculpture materializes a state of absolute communion: the act of holding and being held within a single breath of stone.
