Curatorial analysis

The visual weight of this sculpture rests on a vast enveloping curve that rises from the base and travels along the mother's back to culminate in the contact of the two faces. Alexy Palenzuela articulates a compact mass where mother and child are not juxtaposed as isolated bodies, but rather coalesce into a single tectonic unit. The bronze's density abandons any sense of rigidity to operate as a container of organic, full, and continuous volumes, where scale and anatomical robustness assert a protective presence.

The polished, patinated surface gently modulates ambient light, concentrating warm highlights along anatomical crests: the pronounced arc of the thigh, the curvature of the torso, and the affectionate meeting of the two heads. A deliberate counterpoint arises between the broad, smooth surfaces and the rhythmic modeling of peripheral details. The wavy hair adorned with stylized flowers, the folds of the toes firmly anchored to the base, and the small sphere resting upon the plinth provide visual resting points that enrich the gaze as it traverses the sculptural block.

By favoring closed lines and circular contours, the piece transforms the embrace into an autonomous architectural space. The infant rests supported and contained within the arms of the maternal figure, while a flower cradled in their joined hands introduces a note of fragility against the metal's heaviness. Maternity is thus presented not as a fleeting episode, but as a permanent structure of shelter, where the formal fullness of the female body serves as an immovable foundation for tenderness.
