Curatorial analysis

Weight and physical fullness govern this sculpture from the very first visual encounter. The female body neither apologizes for its mass nor attempts to conceal its roundness; on the contrary, the carving exalts the expansive curve of the abdomen, the dense fall of the breasts, and the firmness of thighs firmly anchored upon the plinth. The anatomy is synthesized into smooth, continuous masses, where joints and folds do not fracture the silhouette but merge into an organic, monumental, and serene architecture.

The grain of the wood plays a decisive role in the reading of the surface. Rather than serving as a passive background, the natural undulations of the grain follow the rhythm of the carved flesh, wrapping around the hips and belly as if the living material of the tree itself dictated the flow of the garment and the anatomical relief. Light slides effortlessly across a warm, satin finish, casting soft highlights that reveal the reddish and amber warmth of the timber, heightening the tactile, intimate presence of the piece.

A deliberate contrast emerges between the earthy solidity of that bodily mass and the inward lightness of the head. With her face tilted upward, eyelids half-closed, and a hand gently resting near her neck, the figure seems to inhabit a suspended moment in time. Her posture denotes no sorrow, but rather an intimate psychological stillness, as though the title summoned a distant memory savored with unhurried care. This balance between inescapable physical presence and quiet contemplation grants the figure a monumental dignity, wherein remembrance is not a burden, but a gentle resting state held within the firmness of the body.
