Curatorial analysis

The natural grain of the trunk completely governs the presence of this body. Instead of subjecting the block to rigid anatomy, the carving harnesses the growth rings and knots in the wood to imbue the belly and chest with an unusual organic vitality. The concentric rings swirl across the abdominal area and the breasts, turning the woman's physical density into a living topography where flesh and tree share the exact same warm texture.

There is a dignity in her posture that eschews any conventional canon. Firmly planted upon a pair of sturdy feet that anchor the total weight, the figure resolves into a compact block where the arms hang flush against the torso without fully detaching from the sculptural mass. The dress is barely hinted at as a cylindrical skirt that preserves the resolute verticality of the log, highlighting a deliberate heaviness that contrasts with the apparent weightlessness of the face.

The head, tilted and turned upward with a kerchief tied to the side, breaks strict frontality with a gesture of proud self-sufficiency. The facial features, subtly rendered with minimal incisions and delicate hollows for the eyes and mouth, project a defiant poise that speaks directly to the viewer. The raised chin and gaze directed at the upper space bestow upon the figure a silent authority, stripped of all artifice.

Light glides across the polished wood, accentuating satin modulations and reddish hues that range from amber to deep russet. Thus, the sculpture asserts a monumentality that transcends its physical scale of eighty centimeters: it summons the archetype of an elemental and everyday strength, confident in its own gravity and firmly rooted in the earth.
