Curatorial analysis

A resounding fullness governs the sculpture before any anecdote. The body expands, claiming the space with a confidence that dispenses with external canons, rising from a circular base like a living, fleshy column. The head tilts backward with eyes closed in joyful pause, offering the face to an invisible stimulus, while the hands rest clasped over the belly in absolute composure. There is in that posture a serene affirmation of self-pleasure that substantiates the title of the piece.

The volume engages with a tactile surface where the bonded marble retains roughness, ripples, and traces of manual modeling. Rather than the coldness of classical marble, the material here takes on an almost organic quality through direct polychromy. The skin displays warm, earthy undertones that contrast with the luminosity of the pearlescent bustier, on which two red blossoms pinpoint the chest with uninhibited decorative freshness. Below, the metallic ochre skirt falls, shaping the hips and abdomen with distinct gravity, parting in a slit that reveals the enameled toes of a bare foot.

At the figure's feet, curled up on a dense foliage base, a small dog sleeps. Its white, gathered mass serves as both a thermal and formal counterpoint to the dominant verticality of the female body. This detail not only anchors the composition to the earth, but also reinforces an atmosphere of domestic intimacy and unquestionable peace.

The piece challenges the conventions of portraiture by celebrating maturity, voluptuousness, and the autonomy of desire. There is no plea for validation in this woman's gaze because her attention is turned inward, in a state of self-sufficiency and sensory delight that transforms corpulence into monumental grace.
