Curatorial analysis

Physical weight and fullness dominate the space with brazen ease. Far from concealing folds, cellulite, or the downward pull of gravity, the sculptural volume exalts them as a pure celebration of earthly delight. The reclining figure reinterprets the classical lineage of the odalisque or the reclining nude, yet immediately dismantles any passive compliance: here, the body does not pose to surrender to an outside gaze, but inhabits its own voluptuous abandon, head tilted back, carmine lips parted, and a turquoise shadow crowning her ecstasy.

The polychrome cast marble takes on an unexpected organic quality. Its surface is neither sleek nor does it mimic the aloof chill of traditional marble; instead, it retains a porous, almost tactile grain, treated with warm patinas that emulate the heat of living flesh. This material treatment engages in sharp dialogues: the dense, combed green of the hair, the impassive whiteness of the pearl earring, and the delicate beaded anklet encircling a monumental ankle, accentuating the deliberate disproportion of her limbs.

The compositional rhythm flows along a sinuous diagonal connecting the head to the feet, punctuated by a bold red high heel. Tucked beneath her forearm, a small white cat with a mischievous expression shares the bed of autumnal leaves that gives the piece its title. Yet the most disruptive and witty counterpoint crawls along her left thigh: a small red imp clinging to her hip, a stinging metaphor for an unyielding desire.

Hojarasca turns corporeal opulence into a realm of freedom and irreverent humor. The work fuses the vernacular with the mythical, celebrating an overflowing sensuality that dismisses borrowed canons to assert itself in its own joyful sovereignty.
