Curatorial analysis

A dense, almost calcareous roughness dominates the body of this white feline. The papier-mâché pulp makes no attempt to conceal its origins or mimic the softness of docile fur; instead, it gathers into coarse, craggy lumps that trap zenithal light, generating thousands of micro-shadows across the sculptural skin. Emerging from this encrusted, enveloping crust are two almond-shaped eyes of a vivid sky blue, outlined with delicate black calligraphic precision that breaks the rustic ground and holds a direct gaze, poised midway between courtly composure and animal indifference.

The upright posture settles the volume into a compact pyramid of decisive firmness. Seated upon its haunches, the feline thrusts out its chest and holds its head high with an aristocratic dignity that belies the everyday modesty of paper. This persistent tension between the gravity of the pose and comical artifice is activated by just three deliberate accents: a black cloth bow tie neatly fastened beneath the jowls, a minuscule metallic hoop pierced into the tip of the right ear, and a crimson heart standing out on its flank like a seal of identity or a secret decoration.

Such additions orchestrate an evocative cross between institutional portraiture and affectionate caricature. The formal attire and ceremonial poise conflict with the contemporary mischief of the earring and the graphic tenderness of the heart, transforming the figure into a character endowed with an implied biography and simulated nobility. Beneath the dominant white, the material also reveals subtle toasted, pinkish, and light blue undertones in the recesses of the modeling, imparting a living warmth that tempers the chill of plaster. The piece concludes by celebrating visual humor without neglecting sculptural weight, presenting us with a domestic guardian claiming its place in the world with impassive elegance.
