Curatorial analysis

A feline gaze split into two irreconcilable halves commands this large-scale canvas. Along the central axis, the cat's face divides the space with an arresting optical tension: on one side, an eye resolved in a cool graphic idiom of black-and-white spirals evoking a lunar cartography or a skeletal labyrinth; on the other, a golden, solar iris charged with radiating filaments that absorbs the warmth of the surrounding plane. This physiognomic division does not fracture the figure, but rather endows it with a dual perceptive consciousness.

Around this totemic core, Carlos Tapia unfurls a vegetal and cosmic realm where conventional hierarchies of scale are suspended. To the left, a floating fish with geometric scales engages in dialogue with bulbous botanical shapes; to the right, a textured solar sphere rendered with dense, restless brushwork counters an intricate network of filaments reminiscent of branches or molecular constellations. This entire apparatus floats over a soft pink background that, rather than neutralizing the scene, operates as a chromatic cushion for the cat's stark internal contrasts.

The animal's torso functions as a vessel for autonomous forms: semicircles, emerald patches, deep blues, and carmine wedges stack together without compromising the enveloping silhouette. The acrylic medium is handled with measured density, alternating areas of flat color with impasto swirls on the chest and within the solar disc, where ambient light meets tangible relief across the painted surface.

The title anchors the dilemma in the very act of seeing. The coexistence of the analytical eye and the incandescent eye suggests a contemplation on inner vision versus outward perception, stranding the viewer before a silent guardian that observes two worlds at once.
