Curatorial analysis

A burst of pure color and firm black contours organizes this sumptuous interior, where orientalist fantasy becomes a playful, vibrant stage. The physical seam of the diptych divides the canvas vertically, yet the pictorial space does not fracture; on the contrary, it knits together through the broken rhythm of the zigzag rug and the wide crest of the multifoil arch above. The acrylic paint settles in dense, flat planes, relying on an uninhibited saturation where sunny yellows, fiery pinks, emerald greens, and ultramarine blues coexist in continuous optical friction.

Perspective consciously renounces volumetric depth to flatten the room into a sequence of overlapping decorative patterns. The plane of the floor rises toward the foreground without atmospheric softening, while the latticework in the background, built with Mudéjar-inspired geometries, shuts out any exterior view and confines the gaze to this private atmosphere. The objects (the undulating-framed mirror reflecting fragmented visions, the slender pitcher on the turned pedestal, the gathered drapery, and the spherical fishbowl at the far right) construct a joyful horror vacui, where the black contour functions as a grid holding the exuberance of the palette in place.

Amid such ornamental display, two cats with magnetic gazes and stylized anatomies command the space. On the left, a lilac cat perches upright with hieratic poise upon a crimson armchair, observing the viewer through almond eyes; on the right, atop the Turkish divan, another feline in a peach hue stretches in a foreshortening that cuts horizontally across the second panel. Rather than serving as mere anecdotal motifs, these figures introduce a counterpoint of stillness and sensuality against the dynamism of the graphic patterns, establishing the room as a sanctuary where decorative opulence defers to silence and the sovereignty of domestic repose.
