Curatorial analysis

The void is not an absence on this canvas, but the main body of the event. Almost the entire vertical surface is occupied by a cold, silvery mist, a grayish wash that breathes through subtle layers of matter, where faint footprints or faded marks emerge like traces of a presence that is no longer there. In the upper third, suspended against all earthly gravity, two identical and schematic figures watch over this barren space.

Both figures are defined by a radical synthesis: oval heads and arms bent at right angles, rendered in a resounding, flat, and opaque black. Beneath these dark blocks, the torsos and seated legs barely survive as ghostly lines, scratches, or white transparencies that seem to dissolve into the atmosphere that sustains them. The duplication of the subject denies the traditional idea of a univocal portrait. By unfolding, the figure does not multiply in company, but rather accentuates its own isolation, establishing a silent, symmetrical dialogue with itself.

The visual tension operates through a violent imbalance of weight. The compositional weight is pushed toward the upper ledge, inverting the logic of grounding and letting the gaze fall into a deaf, neutral abyss. In that vast lower expanse, the subtle tracks imprinted in the matter suggest the passage of time or the fossilized echo of a bodily passage. The work thus displaces the face to seek identity elsewhere: in the shared shadow of a silent double and in the tactile memory of a surface that remembers having been stepped upon.
