Curatorial analysis

Absolute emptiness governs the scene with the aseptic neatness of a laboratory. Across two staggered white planes that disrupt the continuity of the traditional support, Eduardo Mata deploys bodily fragments severed from any narrative context, suspended in a whiteness that acts not as atmosphere, but as surgical silence.

In the upper section, an open mouth reveals teeth amid fractured planes, imprisoned beneath a numbered millimeter grid and framing marks that invoke the Renaissance method of anatomical transfer. The pictorial matter, modeled in a rigorous grisaille of dense blacks and luminous whites, coexists with the lightness of technical graphite lines. This tension between the hyperbolic volume of the organ and the chill of projective geometry strips the flesh of its organic warmth, turning it into a purely optical and structural problem.

Toward the lower plane, two feet suspended in void repeat this procedure of analytical detachment. Two horizontal bands of white glaze cross the insteps like bandages or technical censorship marks, interrupting the tactile reading of skin and reminding us that we stand before a mediated representation. Faint lines descending from the upper to the lower panel articulate an invisible axis, joining both parts in a dissection that seems to belong as much to an operating table as to a drafting board.

Mata dispenses with color to concentrate all dramatic charge within fragmentation. Rather than offering a portrait or a unified figure, the work operates as a lucid reflection on the body observed, measured, and dismantled by the analytical eye of the artist. The anatomical remnants float between the certainty of pictorial volume and the fragility of technical draftsmanship, leaving open a suspicion regarding the impossibility of grasping the human totality through the mere cataloging of its parts.
