Curatorial analysis

Two dark signs, synthetic to the extreme, stand against a vertical cadence of metallic fluting. Leonel González reduces the body to an elemental syntax: a bowl-shaped or open-torso silhouette crowned by a suspended oval acting as a head. There are no individual features, clothing, or anatomical volume; human presence is distilled into a rotund glyph, repeated almost as an echo or a silent companionship. Its weight lies in the decisiveness of the matte black, applied with an impasto-like density that refuses to dissolve into the background.

Behind these two figures, the support introduces an incessant optical vibration. The corrugated rhythm of the zinc sheet, so deeply rooted in the domestic landscape of the Costa Rican Caribbean, modulates light across chromatic ridges and troughs where muted blues, petroleum greens, and whitish glazes with lavender undertones coexist. The dripped and weathered paint running down the gutters simulates the passage of salt spray, tropical humidity, and rainwater, lending the surface an atmospheric and aged quality that contrasts with the graphic freshness of the two frontal icons.

The title evokes a culinary and collective resonance fundamental to Limonese culture, linked to communal preparation and oral memory. Yet, there are no obvious cauldrons or fire here, but rather a spatial testimony that encodes identity in the encounter of two bodies against the shelter of zinc. The tension between the industrial coolness of the metal and the human quality of the brushstrokes transforms the corrugated sheet into a canvas charged with social memory, where the everyday becomes a graphic monument.
