Curatorial analysis

There is an electric startle in the gaze of this feline. Its wild, circular, almost hypnotic eyes, together with whiskers cast in thin filaments, condense a tension that goes beyond the animal anecdote into a purely material event. José Alejandro Herrera dispenses with traditional brushwork and constructs the figure through dense pours, trickles, and drips of India ink. Instead of an absolute black, the ink takes on a deep, visceral wine-dark tone, resting with tactile relief upon the pale surface.

The four limbs plant themselves in a frontal row, resolving the stance into a geometric rigidity that contradicts the feline's flexible nature and negates all classical perspective. From that lower base, a simmering band where the pigment forms pools, glazes, and craters opening to white, the pierced body rises like an organic lattice. The tail arches upward in an open curve that balances the severity of the legs and returns the viewer's eye to the starting point. Instead of remaining isolated, the animal seems to secrete its surrounding space: a web of capillary threads and microscopic splatters that tautens the background like a neural network.

The visual strength lies in the constant dialogue between the weight of the coagulated ink impastos and the almost airborne lightness of the filaments. There is an uncanny humor in this guarded physiognomy, where the accidental nature of the drip does not dissolve the form, but rather sustains it with firmness. Herrera ensures that the silhouette does not simply contain the animal, but that the animal itself momentarily condenses the chaotic energy of the liquid.
