Curatorial analysis

A frontal, hypnotic, and asymmetrical gaze governs the space from the very first moment. On this large-format canvas, the visual archetype of David Bowie merges with feline physiognomy in a synthesis that is as playful as it is challenging. The iconic two-tone lightning bolt cuts vertically through the face's left hemisphere, while two wide, concentric eyes of differing palettes unravel the viewer's equilibrium. The scale, measuring one meter and thirty centimeters on each side, magnifies this fixity, turning a pop culture reference into a vibrant totem.

Color operates here with electric intensity. A ground of deep blues, charged with short strokes of green and turquoise that generate an almost cosmic vibration, supports the warm burst of the central figure. The magenta, fuchsia, and orange tones of the fur and spiky mane seem to radiate their own light, thanks to the generous body of the acrylic applied with direct vigor and visible impasto. The thick black outlines, reminiscent of the assertiveness of stained glass or expressionist graphics, contain the force of the pure pigments and impose a rigorous order within the chromatic overflow.

Beneath an apparent symmetry, the artist introduces unsettling disruptions. On the figure's left cheek (the viewer's right), a small reddish feline seems to inhabit the character's skin, curling toward the ear in a spiral that disrupts two-dimensionality and suggests an unfolding metamorphosis. Toward the base, a neck segmented into yellow and green diamonds evokes the costume of a space harlequin, reinforcing this multiple and theatrical identity.

The painting dispenses with any decorative timidity. Carlos Tapia constructs an icon where musical tribute transmutes into a shamanic being, capable of holding the viewer's gaze and projecting an unsettling magnetism that fluctuates between humor, pop devotion, and animal mystery.
