Curatorial analysis

The horizontality of the outstretched arms immediately defies the earthly gravity of the posture. Manuel Vargas positions this female figure in a solid squat, her robust torso firmly grounded over massive thighs and feet anchored to the base. Yet, rather than retracting into a defensive stance, the body expands with generosity. The arms stretch wide in an almost uninterrupted line that far exceeds the height of the piece, while the face tilts upward with a serene, fulfilled expression of welcome.

The medium actively engages in dialogue with this duality of weight and lightness. The bronze, treated with a dark patina bordering on deep chocolate and black, comes alive at the points where glancing light grazes the contours: the taut curves of the shoulders, the rounded breasts, the slope of the forearms, and the smooth bend of the knees. These burnished surfaces reveal copper and amber gleams that accentuate the fleshiness of the modeling, lending the metallic skin a tactile warmth that softens the rigidity of the metal.

A profound affective resonance anchors this balance. The title inscribes an invitation that the body has already proclaimed in three dimensions, transforming the weight of a monumental anatomy into an architecture of embrace. Rather than standing tall to encompass space, the figure lowers itself to ground level, compacting to become foundation, and opens an inhabitable space between her outstretched hands. The sculpture thus operates as a vortex of welcome where strength and tenderness coexist without dissonance, condensed in bronze as a shelter open to the world.
