Curatorial analysis

The pictorial space manifests as an eroded wall or an antique page, dominated by a vibration of calcinated earths, sienna, and rust tones. Upon this dense, rubbed field, where calligraphic traces faintly emerge buried beneath layers of acrylic, an orchid branch rises stripped of its customary botanical green. Relinquishing vivid color places the plant in a timeless territory, closer to the record of a fossilized herbarium or the patina of parchment than to tropical exuberance.

Modeled in tones of bone, ivory, and umber shadow, the flowers float suspended along a subtly diagonal axis. Each corolla unfolds fleshy, twisted petals that curl through the air with sculptural grace. The handling of light sculpts the volumes through soft gradations that contrast vividly with the rustic ground, making the corollas appear to project outward from the earthy matter. This opposition between the rough background, scored with scrapings and glazes, and the almost mineral smoothness of the botanical forms generates an undeniable tactile tension.

The traces of script peering through the background scrapings establish a dialogue between nature and handwriting. The orchids no longer function merely as a still life: they become emblems of memory, visual inscriptions fixed by time onto a support that seems to have survived weathering. The chromatic restraint, focused on the dialogue between glowing ochres and the ashen paleness of the petals, envelops the scene in a reflective quietude. It is a painting that dispenses with artifice to arrest the organic moment, transforming the blossom's fragility into a serene monument to permanence.
