Curatorial analysis

A feline, raptorial gaze, slit with spectral coldness across the upper third of the canvas, immediately arrests any passive viewing. The face, formed from a dense mass of chalky white and subtle sfumato, conjures the physiognomy of a nocturnal creature that defies taxonomic docility. The shadowy mark serving as a beak or respiratory cavity dispenses with any illustrative ambition; its function is to suspend the being in an unsettling threshold where the human, the zoomorphic, and the numinous collide.

The body unfolds downward not as a closed sculptural mass, but through a cascade of diagonal sweeps and dry-brush frictions that expose the weave of the support. There is a contained violence in the velocity with which the white cuts through the charcoal ground, as if the anatomy had been captured an instant before dispersing back into the shadows. The ascending diagonals of what might be crossed shoulders, wings, or breasts generate a tense, rising rhythm, thrusting the figure forward into the viewer's space amidst phantasmagoric veils and tatters of plumage.

Under the mythological invocation of the centaur, the piece subverts the classical equestrian archetype to test an avian, solitary hybridization. The severe chromatic restraint, anchored in a scale of grises with delicate cold undertones filtering through the darkness, intensifies an atmosphere of trance or ritual revelation. Conceived as part of a diptych, the creature takes on an expectant nature: it seems to hold a silent dialogue with a reflection or counterpart situated outside the frame, confronting us with the impenetrable watchfulness of an entity lurking in the dark.
