Curatorial analysis

A frontal, almost spectral gaze bears the weight of a metamorphosis underway. From the washed tones of the lower section rises the silhouette of a cervid, whose silent face seems to fade into glazes of mauve, smoke, and pale brown. The directness of its eyes creates an inescapable anchor that contrasts with the lightness with which the paint was applied at the base.

The horizontal format expands the centrifugal force of the head. Where one would expect the bone solidity of antlers, an exuberant crown of white lilies intertwined with gnarled branches bursts forth. The pictorial matter behaves with deliberate looseness; highly diluted washes allow thin vertical drips to run down the nasal bridge like tears or exposed sap, while in the crest the cold whites and blues take on a more decisive, sharp texture. Toward the center of the brow, strokes of earthy carmine mark a point of visceral tension, evoking a fertile wound from which all this vegetation sprouts.

The light gathers entirely within that floral mass, contrasting against an atmospheric background of deep greens and sandy ochres. The dialogue with the myth of Diana, patroness of forests and wild creatures, resonates in this hybridization where prey and altar seem to merge. There is no narrative anecdote here, but rather a state of suspension: the animal does not wear the flowers, but becomes them, absorbing the botanical environment until its biological individuality dissolves.

The painting rests on that unresolved tension between the fragility of the lily and the stealth of the beast that stalks or is stalked. Rather than offering anatomical certainties, the painted surface celebrates mutation, leaving the viewer before a mythical presence that emerges from the forest to question us in silence.
