Curatorial analysis

A slice of watermelon glowing in pink and carmine tones concentrates the entire temperature of the canvas, suspended between the pale hands of an apparition. Surrounding this fruit, which acts as the sole biological and earthly anchor, the space unfolds in a cold atmosphere of fractured whites, ash grays, and deep blacks. The extreme verticality of the format, two meters high, accentuates the sensation of a monumental presence that floats and ascends, detaching itself from any earthly gravity.

The woman's face exhibits an almost sculptural stillness, with cerulean tones and eyelids lowered in a meditative state, yet this classical serenity disintegrates upward: her hair merges into a vaporous swirl of curved brushstrokes, overlapping marks, and material emanations reminiscent of a cloud mass or dense smoke. In contrast to the smoothness of the face, the garment becomes a purely tactile and gestural territory. Ramón Chirinos layers sgraffito, deliberate drippings, traces of stenciled numbers, and dark textured fragments that ground the base of the figure with an almost geological density.

This oscillation between figuration and abstraction endows the piece with a haunting lyricism. The woman holds the fruit not as someone preparing to eat it, but as a silent offering or living relic amidst a spectral landscape. The contrast between the flesh of the fruit and the mineral coldness of its surroundings suggests a dialogue on the transience of life versus the timeless nature of thought, achieved through a technical command that balances uncontrolled gestural matter with rigorous poetic precision.
