Curatorial analysis

Two dense mineral masses suspend their entire gravity upon an infinitesimal point. In this five-foot vertical structure, the minimal physical contact between two opposing vertices concentrates the piece's energy, transforming the heaviness of stone into an almost implausible act of balance.

The lower body, a broad cone of porous texture and firm footing, assumes the tectonic function of terrestrial support. Its summit is capped by a sharp, burnished, light metallic point that receives the inverted apex of the upper body with absolute precision. That second volume, an elongated shaft reminiscent of the carved core of a graphite pencil or a geological plumb line, ascends slenderly into free space. The verticality never breaks: the visual axis pierces the matter from top to bottom, sustained entirely by the accuracy of the encounter.

The surface speaks through an uncompromising tactile restraint. Muted grays, with subtle shifts toward brown and greenish undertones, reveal the sedimentary nature of the stone, worked with a refinement that absorbs light rather than reflecting it. Only the metallic tip casts a cold gleam, an instrumental sheen that underscores the technical nature of the coupling between both forms.

By invoking the raw material of drawing and writing in its title, the sculpture unfolds its physical presence into a metaphor for the stroke. What we encounter is not merely a lithic artifact defying weight, but the three-dimensional freezing of the instant when two forces graze each other to initiate a mark: the promise of contact, the sharpness that precedes inscription.
