Curatorial analysis

Glass ceases to be a passive recipient of light to operate instead as a geological stratum. In this three-dimensional piece, volume arises not from conventional modeling but from the thermal fusion of fractured planes, where a wavy back panel engages with a sharp frontal wedge cutting forward toward the viewer. The upper crest introduces an almost mechanical rhythm: a row of vertical slits carved like a comb or diaphragm, sharply contrasting with the vitreous fluidity of the surrounding mass.

Inside the glass sheets, the composition builds through an interplay of sedimentations. Trapezoidal fragments and glass splinters overlap in gradations of cerulean blue, cobalt, seafoam green, and slate grey. Light penetrates these varying transparencies, unveiling veils and microscopic bubbles suspended in the kiln's melt, enduring traces of heat and cooling. Amid this cool, contemplative atmosphere, opaque black wedges and sudden sparks of carmine red erupt; these warm, dark accents break the chromatic continuum and inject an incisive tension that energizes the entire structure.

By titling the work as a landscape, Maricel Alvarado Orozco puts forward not a mimetic view, but a synthetic, fractured topography. The sculpture hints at tectonic faults, mountain silhouettes, or glacial drifts reassembled through geometric purity. Its real depth resides not merely in its physical twenty-one centimeters, but in the optical refraction shared between planes: the shadow cast by the leading edge onto the backdrop shifts as the viewer moves, converting an object of hard edges into a light-driven atmosphere in perpetual modulation.
