Curatorial analysis

Two eyes that perceive the world from different temperatures govern Clementina's face. On the left, a clear, resolute cerulean iris confronts the viewer directly; on the right, the gaze dissolves into a veil of toasted amber, scattered with tiny bubbles that turn the pupil into a solar gleam. This visual asymmetry imbues the portrait with an intimate tension, suspended between wakefulness and reverie.

Maricel Alvarado Orozco structures the piece through overlapping glass planes where drawn contour coexists with the density of fused enamel. The hair cascades like a curtain of vertical ribbons in earthy tones, fiery reds, and emerald greens. Upon closer inspection, this mass of hair reveals tiny, almost schematic etchings of quadrupeds and symbols that seem seared by fire, an earthbound graphic language that also reappears scattered across the base of the torso. These archaic motifs lend the figure a mythical resonance, turning her garment and locks into a map of suspended signs.

Light filters through the glass, granting it a distinct volumetric vibration. The face, built through gradations of yellow and ochre frit, captures frontal brightness while the margins retain the organic softness imparted by kiln heat. In the lower section, a festive neckline of carmine triangles over a turquoise band anchors the composition, providing a rhythmic counterpoint to the verticality of the hair.

Elevated upon its metal stand, the transparency of the medium allows the figure to shift alongside the ambient light. Clementina inhabits a borderland between devotional icon and contemporary portraiture, where glass ceases to be a cold material and becomes a filter projecting warmth, memory, and lucid introspection.
