Curatorial analysis

Here, glass renounces its utilitarian function to stand as a vegetal silhouette, capturing light and atmosphere within a single tangible body. In this sculpture, the figure of a tree dispenses with bark, pigment, and dense foliage, manifesting instead through fused glass planes where the silhouette relies not on pictorial contours, but on the transparent mass itself and the thermal joins that articulate its inner structure.

A clear and poised verticality governs the trunk, which ascends with restraint before opening into an irregular, lobed crown pierced by organic openings. These voids across the crystalline plane allow the background and surrounding space to penetrate the piece, blurring the boundary between the work and the air encompassing it. The interior of the glass is not an aseptic void: it harbors a dense constellation of microbubbles generated during the firing process, whose visual effect recalls morning dew or suspended condensation. Catching lateral light, these particles ignite into tiny white specks, endowing the canopy with a vaporous quality and a perceptual depth that contradicts the physical thinness of the sheet.

The material counterpoint provided by the support proves decisive for the visual stability of the piece. The base consists of a sedimentary stone slab with fractured edges, an irregular cut, and a rough texture, anchoring the trunk with elemental firmness. Faced with the earthiness and warmth of this plinth, the glass rises clear and cool, generating an eloquent tension between the geological weight of the rock and the nearly incorporeal lightness of the glass.

Maricel Alvarado Orozco proposes a nature that functions simultaneously as solid structure and vaporous vision. The work avoids literal botanical mimesis to concentrate on the atmospheric memory of the cloud forest, translating the outdoors into a language of refractions, melted perimeters, and captured light, where the tree does not contend with the landscape, but serenely dissolves into it.
