Curatorial analysis

Light does not merely pass through this face: it divides and renders it transparent at the same time. Supported by a rectilinear pedestal that anchors its apparent weightlessness, the figure rises as a vitreous mass where two irreconcilable chromatic temperaments coexist. Toward the left of the composition, warm and solar amber concentrates the warmth of flesh; toward the right, a dense and cold turquoise submerges the features into an aquatic dimension. This vertical partition does not fracture the countenance, but rather endows it with a dual emotional temperature, underscored by a frontal gaze that shuns any contemplative ease.

The linear drawing in black, with its fine stroke and graphic pulse, functions as a delicate skeleton floating trapped between layers of fused glass. Around it, the hair billows into whirlwinds of oxides, earthy ochres, and emerald greens that appear suspended in mid thermal boiling. The material handling of glass fusing skillfully harnesses the contingencies of kiln firing (tiny captive air bubbles, translucent glazes, and organic edges that elude mechanical cuts). In the lower segment, the blue deepens to gain sculptural weight, harboring dark geometries that evoke garments, bodily shadows, or structures resting beneath a motionless tide.

Titled as a direct inquiry, the sculpture places uncertainty at the heart of its perceptual experience. Transparency is often associated with frankness and unvarnished truth; here, however, the glass conceals just as much as it reveals. Between the carmine accent of the lips and the superimposed densities that warp the surroundings depending on the viewing angle, the face poses an enigma about authenticity and concealment. The viewer is suspended before this question, understanding that identity is never surrendered whole, but rather filtered through successive layers of light and reserve.
