Curatorial analysis

The upper serrated edge immediately establishes a rhythmic, almost biological pulse across a structure that oscillates between the silhouette of a marine creature and the cross-section of a petrified wave. In this fused glass piece, the artist articulates space through overlapping horizontal planes, where the rigidity of the original material yields to heat, softening into smooth and rounded contours.

Light does not merely bounce off the surface; it penetrates through varying densities. Translucent fragments of aqua green, turquoise, and cerulean blue overlap to create marine shadows and crystalline transparencies dotted with tiny bubbles trapped during firing. Amid this prevalence of cool, aquatic hues, a vertical wedge of carmine red and a dark green polygonal patch interrupt the horizontal cadence, serving as focal accents that energize the gaze and introduce tension to the optical center.

Toward the left end, the notched crests and parallel incisions evoke gills, fins, or the regular breaking of waves over a reef, providing a tactile texture that contrasts with the polished continuity of the main body. The clear glass rectangular base elevates and isolates the form, casting a subtle reflection that reinforces the buoyancy and weightlessness intrinsic to an aquatic environment.

Beyond the direct allusion to the sea implied by its title, the sculpture operates as a rigorous inquiry into refraction and synthetic volume. The ocean does not present itself here as an ungraspable liquid mass, but condensed into a luminous, geological fragment that retains, beneath its calm appearance, the inner vibration of opposing currents.
