Curatorial analysis

A fractured trapezoidal plane disrupts conventional perspective and sustains a vision of the tropics that rejects documentary mimesis in favor of exuberant graphic ornamentation. Eugenia Andrade subverts the traditional coastal horizon through an interplay of offset frames and planes, where the shore is not contemplated in infinite depth, but is instead condensed into a kind of suspended window, surrounded by autonomous linear rhythms and a black field densely constellation-speckled with white dots.

Inside this tilted structure, two palm trees set the compositional pulse with segmented trunks and crowns bursting into spirals, scrolls, and concentric stippling. The acrylic medium is applied with relentless calligraphic precision; each frond turns into an intricate arabesque of luminous greens, golden rims, and magenta accents. Below, the ocean waves and sand dunes shed their liquid or geological consistency to assemble as a surge of filigrees, foam scrolls, and curvilinear patterns. The light in the scene does not derive from an atmospheric source, but springs from the direct contrast between flat tints, controlled impastos, and sharply defined lines.

Toward the right side, this organic torrent collides with a rigid curtain of horizontal stripes alternating in cerulean blue, white, and black. This geometric block establishes a decisive friction against the botanical fluidity, destabilizing any purely folkloric reading by introducing an almost serial, graphic vibration. The coexistence of that severe geometry, the dark pointillist background on the left, and the central goldsmith-like intricacy generates a fragmented reading reminiscent of pictorial collage or modernist stained glass.

By closing off spatial recession and projecting elements directly onto the surface, the scene relocates the beach landscape to the realm of artifice and symbol. Andrade foregoes depicting a specific site to construct a large-scale fantastical topography, where the patience of the line, the opulence of drawn textures, and the formal tension transform the natural setting into a purely sensory and rhythmic experience.
