Curatorial analysis

A dense, unstoppable tide of orange petals takes the lower half of the plane by storm, pushing the eye upward with the force of a vegetal surge. Across a markedly panoramic format measuring two and a half meters in length, Álvaro Gómez dispenses with traditional vanishing points to offer a direct immersion into the living earth, where the viewer's physical proximity becomes inescapable.

The space is articulated through a frontal tension between two visual forces: the horizontal, enveloping expanse of blossoms set against the rhythmic, vertical curtain that dominates the upper register. In that upper zone, stems and branches liquefy into dense drippings of ochre, green, and black, filtering subtle glimpses of an atmospheric blue that flickers at the top, serving as a serene counterpoint that validates the work's title. The foreground flowers, endowed with near-three-dimensional physicality through sinuous contours and modulations of cadmium yellow and burnt sienna, gradually shed their definition as they rise, turning into rhythmic dots that dissolve into the undergrowth.

The paint exhibits a remarkable duality, alternating fluid, almost watery stains with crisp contours reminiscent of the nervous fragility of Japanese paper. This canvas offers a celebration of massive flowering that avoids bucolic ease: it is an overflowing, almost voracious spring, whose chromatic intensity suggests the constant, unruly drive of tropical soil rather than the quiet contemplation of a manicured garden.
