Curatorial analysis
Two-thirds of weightless atmosphere sustain, with deceptive calm, the physical violence of a strip of earth that refuses to be mere paint. The horizon slopes down from the left flank along a pronounced diagonal, compressing the topography toward a hollow where a small mirror of water or damp mud seems to rest. This initial asymmetry unsettles the gaze: the eye does not settle on a serene vanishing point, but slips instead toward the concavity of the ground, trapped within an intricate, hostile thicket.
Below, the oil abandons the illusion of drawing to turn into pure geological crust. Matter gathers through incisions, dry ridges, and knife strokes that shape thistles, brambles, and brittle grasses in drab tones, earthy greens, and tiny ochre highlights. Along the ridge of the slope, a line of golden light cuts through the relief and marks the edge of the knoll, as though a low sun barely grazed the crest before disappearing. At that precise juncture, the pastose impasto dissolves abruptly before the immensity of the sky.
Above, by contrast, the surface breathes through smooth glazes of silvery grays, washed blues, and clouds tinted with faint salmon hues. The luminous gradation does not describe a particular weather event: it builds an expanded silence that magnifies the gravitational weight of the brushwood. A sharp tension persists between the lightness of the air and the roughness of that dry, solitary scrub, untouched by any human presence.
The landscape thus remains suspended between the impenetrable density of the ground and the barren promise of the light. That oscillation between the tactile shelter of the earth and the spiritual escape of the mist turns the expanse into a testimony of quiet endurance.
