Curatorial analysis

Red asks for no permission: it enters the canvas and advances from the base with the force of an irrepressible botanical outburst. Hundreds of scarlet corollas, rendered through bold dabs and precisely drawn black centers, saturate the entire lower plane in a dense accumulation that seems to overflow the physical edges of the stretcher. It is a living, compact, and rhythmically overwhelming tide, where each flower dispenses with mimetic detail to assert itself as a pulse of pure energy, vibrating in unison in an almost musical synchrony.

As the eye climbs, this floral mass gradually disperses, shedding earthy weight and ascending through subtle stems against a backdrop of a completely different nature. Behind the petals, the surface yields to a vertical curtain of drips, glazes, and runs in ranges of ash gray, silver, off-white, and earthy ochres. Gravity commands this pictorial dimension; fluid paint trickles down in continuous threads evocative of a dense downpour, mist dissolving over a mountainside, or a stone wall eroded by time. The optical clash is striking, contrasting the almost graphic solidity of the reds with the watery, spectral quality of the space embracing them.

The panoramic scale, nearly two meters wide, intensifies this counterpoint between persistence and dispersal. Hacia Marzo y Abril proposes a climatic and emotional transition that deliberately dispenses with any conventional horizon line. All tension resides in the intersection of vectors, in the confrontation between this downward liquid descent and the obstinate eruption rising toward the light. Álvaro Gómez positions the viewer at an exact seasonal threshold, where the gray dormancy of a season fractures before the urgency of life blooming in the open.
