Curatorial analysis

Two physical states of paint claim the canvas without concession. In the lower half, a crowded multitude of small raised corpuscles, modeled with dense acrylic impasto, evokes petals or seeds thrusting forward from the pictorial plane. Toward the upper register, by contrast, the matter loses all bodily thickness and turns into a fluid torrent of vertical runoffs, a curtain where greyish, greenish glazes and white filaments descend by sheer gravity.

This duality cancels classical perspective. There is neither horizon nor vanishing line to order the space; the path announced in the title does not appear as a cleared trail upon the ground, but as a perceptual ascent through varying densities. Below, each floral button retains its autonomy through creamy touches in sand, toasted ochre, and rosy hues, contoured by dark umber shadows that accentuate their three-dimensional volume. As the eye climbs, this solid mass begins to dissolve: the blossoms lose weight, drift apart, and become suspended in the downpour of drips cascading from the top edge.

The dialogue between light and matter is activated where these two techniques meet. While the lower area generates actual cast shadows thanks to the paint ridges catching direct light, the upper section operates as a humid, silvery, and translucent atmosphere, pierced by flashes of muted lavender and green. The gaze oscillates between the tactile crust of the blossom and the watery evaporation of the background.

Álvaro Gómez proposes a vegetal immersion that operates more through sensory accumulation than botanical mimesis. The painting holds the tremor of an undergrowth or an overflowing meadow in the wake of a downpour, where the notion of passage lies not in crossing a landscape, but in letting oneself be enveloped by its matter.
