Curatorial analysis

A scarlet tide saturates the canvas from edge to edge, suppressing any horizon line or conventional vanishing point. Álvaro Gómez dispenses with traditional landscape anchors to position the viewer in a vertical, frontal immersion: we do not gaze at a distant field, but find ourselves suspended directly above a dense, pulsating floral mass.

The plane is structured through a rhythmic accumulation of corollas reminiscent of poppies in full bloom. In the lower register, the flowers assume a larger scale, with broad petals of brilliant carmine displaying subtle tonal shifts and sinuous contours. As the gaze ascends, the forms gradually diminish in size and increase in density, creating a discreet atmospheric depth without ever breaking the logic of an all-over surface. This tension between decorative flatness and optical recession sustains the painting's constant vibration.

Across the canvas, the acrylic reveals a dual tactile and luminous character. Certain areas retain translucent washes that allow fleeting glimpses of underlying light (hints of mauve, pink, and muted greens), while in other passages the pigment settles with decisive opacity. The dark floral centers, articulated in deep blacks and browns, function as a swarm of punctures that anchor the eye and prevent the crimson expanse from dissolving into a flat monochrome.

Rojo Primavera oscillates between the vital exaltation of blooming and the almost hypnotic pulse of excess. The compulsive repetition of the botanical motif turns the natural cycle into an entrancing fabric, where vernal exuberance verges on theatrical intensity. By stripping away visible sky and ground, the piece proposes the contemplation of a pure state of germination, where color ceases to describe an external scene and establishes itself as a self-sufficient sensory phenomenon.
