Curatorial analysis

A contrast of densities governs the viewer’s gaze in this jungle scene: the canvas opens like a luminous funnel framed between two impenetrable vegetal masses. The flora is not evoked through glazes or delicate lines, but through a compact mass of pigment worked in relief, where bark, leaves, and branches emerge with the physical roughness of living matter.

This arboreal architecture establishes a pronounced vertical axis. In the center, the crevice of sky bursts forth as a blinding, bluish white that reverberates downward until meeting the fractured stream of the waterfall. The descent of the water does not disperse into a vaporous mist; rather, it drops like a stroke of light across the surrounding darkness, fracturing into white crests and solid splatters before coming to rest in the dense stillness of the pool below.

The lateral flanks act as dark wings that pull the eye into the background. Within them, the color palette contracts into a severe scale of moss greens, deep browns, and near-blacks that absorb any direct hint of sunlight, reserving golden and ochre highlights exclusively for the foliage edges that brush the zenithal clearing. Below, the still water mirrors this discipline through vertical reflections that extend the weight of the canopy across the liquid surface.

This composition operates between telluric weight and the lightness of open air, configuring an interior sanctuary where the natural environment resists domestication. The waterflow presents itself as a distant, almost unreachable presence, guarded by the gravity of a forest that appears to close in upon itself.
