Curatorial analysis

A near-totemic verticality exceeding one and a half meters in height stands on a width of scarcely twenty-eight centimeters. The structure articulates itself as a spine of overlapping planes, where three-dimensionality relies not on pictorial illusion but on physical layers of assembled wood that cast genuine shadows against the wall.

The central core, wider and rendered in deep purple, anchors the gaze with two magenta blocks stacked in counterpoise. From this chromatic heart, the piece extends upward and downward through slender rectangular modules in terracotta red, teal, and turquoise. These segments are not identical, yet they engage in a broken symmetry, calibrated to sustain tension between architectural order and playful rhythm. Horizontal bands in warm yellow act as visual hinges, arresting the vertical flow just before it turns mechanical.

The element energizing the entire ensemble is a minimal visual thread: thin white rods that glide vertically across several levels. These lines do not align symmetrically; they descend offbeat, leap across borders between color blocks, and function as an unbroken graphic pulse. By breaking the density of the polychromatic volumes, these needles of light link the upper terminus (dominated by the crispness of mint green and an orange accent) with the lower block, which is denser and darker.

The surface, treated with uniform matte coats, strips the materials of any anecdotal grain or texture to focus strictly on planar purity and the interplay of relief heights. At this intersection of painting, sculpture, and constructive object, the body of the work invites a reading akin to a three-dimensional musical staff or an abstract sign system, where each module of color represents a tone suspended in rigorous equilibrium.
