Curatorial analysis

The encounter between two thermal and temporal states of matter defines the pulse of Fusión. Alejandro D´Stefano articulates curved segments of rectangular section that intertwine in space without ever closing into complete circumferences. The initial tension stems from their surface contrast. On one side stands the earthy force of an oxidized patina, filled with velvety textures, porosities, and coppery tones that evoke the organic wear of weathering. On the other erupts the cold, precise gleam of a brushed metal band, whose immaculate surface catches ambient light and disperses it in a continuous, satin sheen.

This material disparity is resolved through a choreography of rigorous balance. The arcs do not vie to cancel each other out; they embrace in a shared orbit that grants absolute prominence to the air they enclose. Negative space ceases to be mere absence and functions instead as an invisible volume separating yet uniting the curves. There is a meticulous calibration of weight in this design: the solidity of the metal, with its evident thickness and crisp edges, sheds its heaviness through a helical dynamism that invites the viewer’s physical movement. As the vantage point shifts, the reflective band appears to glide through the interior of the ferrous ring, casting warm reflections across the rust while receiving deep shadows in return.

The piece thus embodies a paradox where structural rigidity yields to a sense of suspended motion. Its title speaks as much to a metallurgical process as to a reconciliation of polarities: the telluric against the industrial, the geological memory of corrosion against the aseptic purity of polished metal. D´Stefano suspends the sculpture within this very friction, allowing two irreconcilable temperaments to arrive at a harmonious and eloquent center of gravity.
